In accordance with the policy approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain name is registered with must be valid and accurate at all times. At the same time, this information is publicly accessible on WHOIS lookup sites and while this may not be a problem for organizations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because everybody can see their names and their personal email and home addresses, all the more so in times when identity fraud is not that unusual. For this reason, registrar companies have come up with a service that hides the details of their clients without modifying them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. In case it is enabled, people will see the details of the registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they make a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic Top-Level Domain extensions, but it is still impossible to hide your private information with certain country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Cloud Website Hosting

If you get a cloud website hosting plan from us, you’ll be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names in case their extensions support the service. You can register or transfer a domain name and enable Whois Privacy Protection during the account activation process or you can enable the service for any of your domains at any time afterwards via the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is exceptionally easy – once you log in, you will need to go to the Registered Domains section where you will find a list of all the domain names that you’ve registered through us. For each one of them you’ll notice an “Whois Privacy Protection” sign, which will show you if the service is enabled or not. By clicking it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain name, or you can turn off the service if it is currently active.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Ordering Whois Privacy Protection for any domain is extremely easy if you have a semi-dedicated server. If the domain name is registered with us, it will be displayed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel that is included with each and every semi-dedicated package. If a specific generic or country-specific domain name is Whois Privacy Protection-eligible, you’ll see a mini symbol on the right-hand side of that domain. To enable the service, you’ll have to click on it. In the same manner, you can also renew or deactivate the service. You can activate Whois Privacy Protection for a domain name during the account order procedure too, but since the Whois Privacy Protection service is optional, we will offer you the opportunity to add it to any of your domain names later in case you change your mind and decide to conceal your private info from the public eye after you’ve already created the account.
